Planning a Destination Wedding? What to Know About Photography
Destination weddings add complexity to every vendor decision, and photography is no exception. Whether you are planning a beach ceremony in Mexico, a vineyard wedding in Tuscany, or an intimate elopement in Iceland, here is what to consider when booking a photographer.
Bring your photographer or hire local? We recommend bringing your own photographer if you have already built a relationship and trust their style. A photographer who knows you, knows your preferences, and has shot your engagement session will deliver better results than someone you meet for the first time on your wedding day.
Travel costs: Most photographers charge a flat travel fee that covers flights, accommodation, and meals. At Omilia Visuals, we quote destination weddings on a case-by-case basis. We ask for a minimum 3-day commitment for international destinations to allow for travel, scouting, and recovery.
Scouting: Arriving a day early allows us to scout the venue, identify the best light at different times of day, and plan the portrait timeline with precision.
Backup equipment: For destination weddings, we bring double equipment — two camera bodies, multiple lenses, extra batteries, and additional memory cards. International destinations mean no quick trips to the camera store.
Legal considerations: Some countries require photography permits or have restrictions on commercial photography in certain locations. We handle all permit requirements as part of our destination wedding service.
